I used to live in Vienna for several years and I love coming back to my old hometown. This year I’ve been in Vienna pretty often. Sometimes for work, sometimes just for fun but every time I got a camera with me. In July my companion was the Nikon FE. I got this gem after I realised that I can’t use my Lensbaby lenses with my Nikon F80. Well, I could use them but only if I meter externally. Besides, the Nikon FE is a classic and every woman should have a little black one.
Fall is by far my favorite season. Crisp air, gloomy days and nature slowing down – this time of the year calls for a certain kind of music. That’s the stuff I’m currently listening to when working on my art or spending too much time in front of the computer.
Thy soul shall find itself alone
‘Mid dark thoughts of the grey tombstone;
Not one, of all the crowd, to pry
Into thine hour of secrecy.
Be silent in that solitude,
Which is not loneliness- for then
The spirits of the dead, who stood
In life before thee, are again
In death around thee, and their will
Shall overshadow thee; be still.
The night, though clear, shall frown,
And the stars shall not look down
From their high thrones in the Heaven
With light like hope to mortals given,
But their red orbs, without beam,
To thy weariness shall seem
As a burning and a fever
Which would cling to thee for ever.
Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish,
Now are visions ne’er to vanish;
From thy spirit shall they pass
No more, like dew-drop from the grass.
The breeze, the breath of God, is still,
And the mist upon the hill
Shadowy, shadowy, yet unbroken,
Is a symbol and a token.
How it hangs upon the trees,
A mystery of mysteries!
“Spirits of the Dead” by Edgar Allan Poe
The title image is from a series I started working on earlier this month, when I visited the central cemetery in Vienna. Shot with a box camera on black and white film.
Have a wonderful Samhain!
Finally I’m catching up on my #12months12cameras project. My camera for June was the Yashica TL-Super and I decided to do some freelensing. It’s been a while since I worked with a detached lens and I forgot how much fun it is.
Slowly, I’m catching up with all the images for my #12months12cameras project! The Konica Big Mini is one of my point and shoot cameras and was my choice for May.
I shoot film a lot but now and then I take the digital camera for a spin. What I also like to do is creating Lightroom Presets. They help me keep post processing consistent and make editing a bunch of images a lot easier. The latest preset I made already gets me in the mood for autumn. Sharing is caring, so here is a free Lightroom preset for you.
If you drink too much alcohol, you get sloppy and might end up with a baby. True story, after several Margaritas I ended up with a Lensbaby. Kids, don’t drink and have a look at online shops. But the truth is, I’m very happy with my Lensbaby and we are inseparable.
